Sacramento'sTower Cafe: Eclectic, Exotic, Whimsical

Sacramento’s Tower Café is located downtown on Broadway Boulevard is a bit like an excursion into a Brazilian rainforest without ever having to leave the city. Perhaps it is the delicious international food and delightful cocktails that keep customers returning time-and-time again, but the relaxed tropical ambiance might have something to do with that as well. Towering palm trees, colorful exotic birds, trickling fountains, and historically-inspired statues make up Tower Café’s impressive theme.

The menu at Tower Café is as remarkable as the theme. Culturally-inspired dishes from all over the globe make their ways onto Tower Café’s menu, and the back of the house uses only the highest-quality ingredients to create their magnificent recipes. Many of Tower Café’s menu items are mostly American classics with decidedly international twists—like the Korean fried chicken with mango-garlic-jalapeno sauce.

Start your Tower Café experience with one of their tasty tapas. The Gai Satay, which features a juicy grilled chicken breast on a skewer with garlic, soy and cilantro, is served with a Thai chili-peanut dipping sauce. The Steak Nigiri features tender beef strips that are marinated in a garlic-ginger-hoisin glaze and served over sushi rice with spicy cucumber salad. Both are excellent choices.

Entrée choices include items like Chicken Katsu, a panko-breaded breast of chicken served with jasmine rice, sautéed vegetables and house-made tomkastsu sauce; Tower Linguine with Atlantic salmon, cherry tomatoes, cilantro, white wine and lemon butter; Koh Tao Crispy Fish, tempura-fried Basa fillet with spinach and Thai chili; and Budin Azteca, a Mexican lasagna made with corn tortillas, chicken, corn, chilies, cheese and tomatillo cream sauce. All are affordably priced and under $16 each.

Save room for some of Tower Café’s tantalizing desserts—you certainly will not be disappointed. Desserts are seasonal—be sure to try the Clementine and Grand Marnier Tart; Caramel Apple Cheesecake;  Chocolate Raspberry Cake with Italian Buttercream; or the Spiced Orange Panna Cotta. Tower Café is also well-known for its fresh-fruit Napoleons—creamy filling and berries between flaky pastry and topped with whipped cream.

Dress at Tower Café is casual, and reservations are helpful on busy weekends.
