Mikuni Japanese Restaurant: Sushi is Just the Beginning
When it comes to traditional Japanese fare, Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is worlds away from it. Of course they've got authentically-prepared Japanese favorites like sushi and hibachi items, but it's the American flare that sets Mikuni apart from other Asian eateries.
With eight Sacramento-area locations, great Mikuni flavor is within reach wherever you are. This ultra-modern and decidedly chic restaurant and bar will impress even the most critical of diners. Of course, the sushi, grill mixes and salads wouldn't be complete without the perfect cocktails to accompany them, either. Mikuni certainly doesn't fall short here either.
While dining at Mikuni, I was treated to a culinary masterpiece-- the grilled barbecue tuna was unlike anything I've ever eaten. The wood-fired grill left a wonderful smoky flavor on the Albacore tuna that mingled perfectly with the spicy-yet-sweet American-style barbecue sauce. Topped off with crisp, fresh scallions, the dish had definite heat-- but was not overwhelmingly spicy.
The sushi at Mikuni looks traditional, but it certainly doesn't taste it. The Benjamin roll blended together crisp tempura-battered shrimp, creamy crab salad and a savory sauce containing hints of citrus and soy. Freshly-sliced jalapeno peppers and onion gave the roll a bit of a kick.
Reservations are helpful, especially on busy weekends or with large groups. Dress is business casual.
In addition to the Midtown Sacramento location, Mikuni has seven other area locations:
