Davis Farmers Market: A California family tradition

Going to the Davis Farmers Market on Saturdays is more than just a family tradition for the residents of Sacramento and its surrounding neighborhoods. It's a way of life.

Located across from Central Park in downtown Davis (approximately 15 minutes from downtown Sacramento), Davis Farmers Market is home to hundreds of vendors who sell thousands of types of produce, prepared foods, meats, cheeses, crafts and plenty more items.

Whether you're in the mood for plump, juicy tomatoes, artisan cheeses or sweet, ripe watermelons, the Davis Farmers Market has what you're looking for. Hand-made jewelry, spices, beverages (apple cider or fresh milk, anyone?) and even hot foods like soup, salads and sandwiches are on hand. There really is something for everyone at Davis Farmers Market.

Visitors who frequent the market don't just come for the food -- they come for the festivities. Because the market is held in a large grassy area, children often play football, eat picnic lunches and enjoy live music for several hours after the market closes at 1 p.m.

Each summer season, from March 17 to Oct. 27, locals enjoy the "Picnic in the Park" from from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday. This popular program draws thousands of visitors each year. Many vendors are open for the picnic, so visitors can shop in the market, eat delicious foods from the Food Faire area, or even enjoy a cold glass of wine or beer in the beer and wine garden. Live music and international cuisine take center stage, and the whole family is welcome. Don't miss the Picnic in the Park!
