Sacramento Ballet: Delight in the Dancing
Founded in 1954, the Sacramento Ballet was created by sisters Barbara and Deane Crockett. The Crocketts sent the ballet into the national spotlight, where it has since been regarded as one of the country's top ballet companies. Audience members of all ages are truly delighted by the grace and elegance of the dancers, who perform in dozens of shows each year.
Favorite shows like the Nutcracker and Swan Lake pair up with exclusive numbers like Carmina Burana, which is directed by ballet director Ron Cunningham. Featuring an orchestra and chorus, Carmina Burana is a favorite amongst Sacramento ballet lovers.
Other upcoming events includes the immensely- popular "Beer and Ballet", which features cocktails, wine and beer along with shows like Modern Masters, a contemporary dance routine that puts the cliche of ballet to shame. Peter and the Wolf, Frankie and Johnny and the collaboration "Nine Sinatra Songs" are also planned for the company's 55th season.
Dance classes are offered for young ballerinas. Each year, the Sacramento Youth Ballet puts on a delightful rendition of "The Nutcracker" for the holiday season. This show is often the most popular attraction at the company; a holiday tradition for many of Sacramento's families.
