Just an hour outside of downtown Sacramento lies one of the area's most visited amusement parks: Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. A creative zoo-theme park combination, Discovery Kingdom is located in nearby Vallejo. The 135-acre park is home to more than 500 animals and nine roller coasters that are sure to make your head spin.

The animals of Discovery Kingdom bring sheer delight to patrons both young and old. From dolphins to whales and tigers to giraffes, the zoo portion of the theme park is missing nothing when it comes to wildlife. With amazing opportunities like the ability to ride an elephant or feed a giraffe, there is no shortage of fun and learning at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

The amusement park boasts more than 40 rides and attractions, from top-thrill coasters to cartoon-themed carts for the little ones. Among the most popular are the "Cobra", a venomous coaster that's perfect for kids (42 inches and up) and adults alike, the "Acme Fun Factory", a wet-and-wild water play structure that's perfect for hot summer days, the "Hammerhead Shark", an inverted-coaster that takes guests 48 inches and over through a series of loops and twists as their feet dangle into the air, and the "V2 Vertical Velocity", a high-speed impulse coaster that reaches speeds up to 70 miles per hour in just four seconds flat.

Entertainment is never in short supply at Discovery Kingdom. In addition to the thrill rides and animal exhibits, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom offers an array of entertainment options for the entire family. Live concerts, marine life shows featuring Killer whales and dolphins, a Looney Toons "Dance Off" and tiger show are just some of the entertainment options available. Midway games are also available throughout the park.

All of the great thrill rides, animal exhibits and live shows are sure to have you work up a hearty appetite. Don't worry though, because Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has you covered. Dozens of restaurants and snack shops including nationally-known chains like Coldstone Creamery, Ben & Jerry's, Johnny Rockets and Papa John's Pizza make appearances throughout the park. Burgers, chicken, funnel cakes, cotton candy, French fries and even seafood are never far from reach no matter where in the park you may find yourself.
